Kahuku Hike

One of the most important keys to living in a new place is understanding the tales, the ghosts, stories, and legends of the people that walked the land past. Ben and I tagged along for a ranger hike in our neighborhood through an old and gated-off cattle ranch. We learned of brave warriors, Hawaiian cowboys, violent earthquakes, tsunamis, and episodes of spewing lava. The land is harsh, which makes the people of Ka'u and Kahuku stubborn and strong. May I feel their presence as I tread over their ancient trails and stroll past their rock walls.
